SCBOA Officials Rating Score and System

The SCHSL utilizes an officials rating system to determine game assignments and it consists of five different categories: Written Examination, SCBOA Experience, Officials Peer Rating, Attendance at Clinics, Exam, and Training, and Cooperation with the Local District. Points for the SCBOA officials rating score are calculated as follows:

Written Examination - Multiply the score achieved on the SCBOA written examination by .25

Example: An official that scores a 96 on the annual SCBOA written examination would earn 24 of 25 possible points.

SCBOA Experience - 5 points earned for each year of certified experience for a maximum of 25 points.

Experience in other states must be confirmed in writing by the athletic association of the state in which the official was certified.

Officials Peer Rating Score - Peer ratings are completed by partners on all varsity assignments. The average is computed and multiplied by 5 for a maximum of 25 points.

Example: An official with an average peer rating score of 4.5 would earn 22.5 of 25 possible points.

Attendance at Clinics, Examination, and Trainings - 20 points towards the officials rating score are earned through attendance at the following list of SCBOA-related events.

5 points awarded for attending an approved SCBOA camp every three years
2 points awarded for attending the SCBOA examination
1 point awarded for attending a SCHSL-sponsored clinic
1 point awarded for each of six classroom clinics attended prior to the season (maximum of 6 points earned)
1 point awarded for each of the two classroom clinics attended after the start of the season (maximum of 2 points earned)
1 point awarded for each of the two scrimmages assigned prior to the start of the season (maximum of 2 points earned)
1 point awarded for each of the two additional clinics attended and/or scrimmages assigned prior to the start of the season (maximum of 2 points earned)

Cooperation with Local District - 5 points awarded for cooperation with the local district. Points may be deducted by the SCHSL Commissioner and/or local district director. The local district director may deduct a maximum of 2 points.
